The items in your backpack (40–60 liters recommended) will generally fall into six categories: documents, clothing, gear, accessories, cosmetics/medical, and food. Following is a small selection of what we recommend you bring.
Documents: This includes your passport and/or visa, cash, guidebook and maps, and proof of your travel insurance.

Clothing: At the very least you should have broken-in hiking boots, hiking pants or shorts, non-cotton base layers, a warm midlayer, and synthetic hiking socks. The weather in Costa Brava is generally mild, but it is always best practice to pack layers that you can easily add or remove as needed.
Gear: Items in this category include backpack, sleeping bag, hiking poles, and water bottle.
Accessories: Hats, gloves, sunglasses, slippers, earplugs, and eye mask. These items are small and must-haves.
Cosmetics/medical: This category includes sunscreen and lip balm, dental hygiene products, shampoo and soap, and painkillers and medication.
Food: In addition to your lunch, you might want snacks like chocolate, trail mix, sausage or cheese, fruit, or energy bars in your backpack.
